The 2026 Indianapolis 500 won't have to worry about having a short field. For some time, there were concerns that the NTT IndyCar Series wouldn't be able to fill all 33 spots in The Greatest Spectacle in Racing. That changed on Monday morning, as Katherine Legge joined the field with A.J. Foyt Racing and HMD Motorsports.
Now, IndyCar has a full field of 33 drivers ready to participate in the 2026 Indianapolis 500. It was a journey full of ups and downs, with Andretti Global and PREMA Racing not putting extra entries into the event. If everything went according to plan, Andretti would have four entries and PREMA Racing wouldn't be sitting it out.
In fact, PREMA Racing is a notable absence because Robert Shwartzman won the pole for the 2025 Indianapolis 500. While IndyCar may not reach more than 33 entries for the 2026 Indianapolis 500, there is great relief that Legge, A.J. Foyt Racing, and HMD Motorsports found a way to run the race.
