Italian wine producer Masi Agricola has unveiled Pinot Noir del Re, a new still wine expression from its Tenuta Casa Re estate. The release marks a further step in Masi’s investment in the Oltrepò Pavese wine region.

Pinot Noir del Re is produced at Tenuta Casa Re, which Masi acquired in 2023. The estate comprises a single 15-hectare vineyard entirely planted with Pinot Noir, underlining a focused, terroir-led approach.

Pinot Noir del Re follows Tenuta Casa Re’s earlier sparkling wine expressions: Moxxè del Re Brut and Rosé. The launch extends its portfolio into still wine and drives Masi’s expansion in the premium Pinot Noir segment.

Tenuta Casa Re is located at Montecalvo Versiggia within the Versa Valley in the hills of Oltrepò Pavese.

Widely recognised as one of the world’s leading Pinot Noir regions, Oltrepò Pavese ranks third globally for cultivation. According to Masi, it is the ideal terroir for this demanding grape variety, which requires precise environmental conditions.

Pinot Noir del Re, the result of the Masi Technical Group’s oenological expertise, is born from a rigorous selection of grapes grown on calcareous soils enriched with marl and silty clay. Afterwards, a six-month ageing period in oak builds structure and aromatic complexity.

Pinot Noir del Re features a ruby-red colour with a vibrant profile and subtle tannins. The medium-bodied wine is described as elegant, fresh and versatile.

Masi highlights its accessibility for both connoisseurs and everyday consumers, alongside its suitability for pairing with a broad range of cuisines.

Masi Group President Sandro Boscaini commented, “Pinot Noir is the wine, without question or compromise: essential and never showy; it does not like excess, and despite a well-defined personality, it does not require long ageing, only respect for its nature.

“Here, in Oltrepò Pavese, it finds its ideal home and reaches its highest expression in a perfect balance of refinement and silkiness.

“Pinot Noir del Re is part of Masi’s strategy to enhance and celebrate wine regions. We are ready, with all due respect, to contribute to the new international horizon of Oltrepò Pavese by putting our historical heritage, technical know-how and export expertise at the service of Pinot Noir.”

Boscaini added: “After a lifetime devoted to iconic wines such as Amarone – which even earned me the nickname ‘Mr Amarone’ – today I have the privilege of also pursuing another passion of mine: Pinot Noir. Our Pinot Noir del Re represents the culmination of decades-long research.

“In Oltrepò Pavese, I have finally found a stylistic expression that truly embodies my vision with the character I seek in a great Pinot Noir.”
