While all players and staff members were able to escape unhurt, everything on the bus was destroyed. This included all softball equipment and personal belongings.
At this time, details surrounding how the bus caught fire haven't been made public.
Now, members of the community are rallying together to help the players obtain new gear.
BCIT Westampton team members are asking for the following donations:
• Softball gear such as gloves, bats, helmets and catcher’s gear.
• New or gently used cleats.
• Training gear.
• Equipment bags.
Members of Jacksonville Fire Co. Station 212 — the firefighters who responded to the bus fire — are collecting these donations to drop off at the school.
Mount Laurel Girls Softball team members are also accepting monetary donations to support BCIT Westampton. Donations can be made via Venmo at @MLGSfood.
