It's clear how far Russell Wilson has fallen that there's news about him potentially signing with a big-market team and yet somehow it hasn't dominated the NFL news cycle.

It was reported Tuesday that the New York Jets are considering signing Wilson, with ESPN's Rich Cimini on top of the news.

Wilson visited the Jets on Monday at their facility, Cimini writes.

The 37-year old Wilson is a free agent after spending the 2025 season with the New York Giants.

The Jets plan to have Geno Smith as their starting QB in 2026.

Behind Smith, they have rookie draft pick Cade Klubnik as well as Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe.

Cimini added in his report that Smith himself went to bat for Wilson in the hopes of bringing him aboard. The duo spent two seasons together in Seattle before Russ was traded to the Broncos.

Russ is a Super Bowl champion with a long history of NFL success, but recent years haven't been as kind to him, and now he's still looking for a job even as all the gigs around the league have been filled. He'll have to settle for a backup spot somewhere, and it's just a matter of figuring out where.

The Jets would come with the potentially positive relationship with Smith, as well as not too much imagining needed to picture a point this season when Wilson was starting again. On the flip side, they aren't expected to contend for a championship.

But Wilson is past the point of being picky. If he wants to keep playing football, he's got to take what he can get.

And even though the news is flying under the radar at the moment, it's clear that Russ might have to work something out with the Jets, because not much else seems to be out there for him.
