The expected move has come as the New York Jets have picked up the fifth-year option on edge rusher Will McDonald.

Indications pointed toward the team doing so and it was announced on Wednesday:

The Jets drafted McDonald with the No. 15 overall pick in 2023. He has 21.5 career sacks and 18.5 in the last two seasons combined.

Exercising the option means McDonald is now under contract in New York for the 2027 season. He was already slated to play in 2026, however, the team has a deadline to pick up the future option which is set during the prior offseason in 2026.

The kicker is that the option is costly for teams, It is projected to be $13.8 million for the 2027 season.

Jets Wire will continue to provide updates throughout the 2026 offseason.
