FOCUS, COMFORT, AND PERFORMANCE THROUGH OKAMURA TASK CHAIRS
The collaboration between Boss Design and Okamura responds to the shifting landscape of work, prioritizing movement and sustained comfort. By combining Okamura’s technical solidity with Boss’ design approach, the duo’s seating expertise concludes in intuitive support that reduces physical friction for attention to stay where it matters. These task chairs are designed to integrate into focused work settings, meeting rooms, and training environments, complementing the existing lounge and collaborative spaces. Whether a user is in a meeting room or a focused work zone, their seating works with the body rather than against it.
Central to this partnership is the concept of ‘Destination Spaces: Focus Working.’ These environments are designed based on how individuals actually work, think, and feel throughout the day. With a human approach to workplace design, the brand acknowledged that in today’s collaborative office, uninterrupted focus is a fragile yet vital resource required for decision-making, creativity, and long-term value. Consequently, a single uniform layout can no longer serve a neurodiverse and mobile workforce.

LONGEVITY AS A FORM OF RESPONSIBILITY
Contessa and Sylphy task chairs are designed to encourage the micro-adjustments necessary to prevent fatigue during long working hours. For Contessa, after more than twenty years of its introduction, Okamura blended its Japanese engineering with the design know-how of Italdesign, inviting the studio to bring the precision of automotive design to workplace seatings.
Founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the visionary named ‘Designer of the Century’ by a global panel of automotive journalists, the studio’s work includes some of the most iconic vehicle designs of the past half-century like Volkswagen Golf and DeLorean DMC-12. This heritage is now translated into a high-performance seating experience that features automotive precision through a distinctive die-cast aluminium frame that acts like a car’s chassis, offering stability and strength while balancing the engineering integrity of a machine with a light silhouette.

Turning to the Sylphy task chair, the piece has stood since 2014 as a testament to Okamura’s study of ergonomic variation. Through the idea that comfort should be immediate, intuitive, and adaptable, without unnecessary complexity, its design introduces a back curve adjustment that synchronizes with the user’s physical profile. This manual interface offers personalized support, anchoring the chair’s philosophy of ‘quiet innovation.’
Both models reflect a shared belief in longevity as a form of responsibility. By creating products designed to endure and stay in use for decades, Boss Design and Okamura provide a sustainable foundation for workplaces built around people.
