A private golf club in Arizona celebrated the grand opening of it $1.3 million practice area.
Dubbed "The Homestead" and designed by golf course architect Phil Smith, the new practice space at Capital Canyon Club in Prescott, Arizona, has a 19,000 square-foot putting course and a new 4,000 square-foot practice green for chipping and putting.
Originally known as Hassayampa Golf Club, it was purchased in 2014 by Jerre and Mary Joy Stead and renamed Capital Canyon Club to honor the state of Arizona's original capitol city, Prescott, as well as the nearby Grand Canyon. The Homestead name for the new practice area was created after the Steads.
The massive new putting green will be split up into a nine-hole putting course as well as as practice putting area, with the intent to maintain green speeds as they are on the golf course, which was designed by Tom Weiskopf and originally opened in 1997.
The Homestead features arroyos, canyons and rock formations and took four months to complete. Prescott is about two hours north of Phoenix.
