USA. Third-generation, family-run airport retailer International Shoppes and local partner Ben Crump Enterprises have introduced what they term a strong community-focused retail programme at Kahului Airport, Maui.

As reported, the retailer has replaced long-time incumbent DFS Group, which exited its Hawaiian downtown and airport operations in January.

The latest opening follows the launch of new-look retail stores at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Honolulu.

A statement said, “ Rooted in a shared commitment to equity, inclusion and community development, the partnership is focused on creating meaningful opportunities for local businesses while enhancing the traveller journey across Maui.”

The partners hailed the “strong and collaborative partnership” with the Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) led by Director Ed Sniffen.

The retailers said, “From an accelerated transition timeline to a shared vision around introducing new brands and elevating local businesses, HDOT has been an instrumental partner in bringing this programme to life and ensuring that Hawaii-based companies have a meaningful platform within the airport.”

A dedicated Mana Up retail space will be front and centre at Kahului Airport, with a concept exclusively dedicated to Maui-based brands.

The wider retail offering is designed to capture the spirit of Maui, with a strong emphasis on locally rooted brands and authentic products.
