Toronto Raptors suffered a painful fourth-quarter comeback on Wednesday night, missing the chance to swing the series 3-2 in their favour. It was a defeat that shifted pressure firmly back onto them.
Now returning home, the Raptors must win to force a decisive Game 7. The stakes are clear, but the tension around the series has also intensified beyond the scoreboard.
That edge was evident during Game 5 as RJ Barrett and James Harden were involved in an on-court altercation.
RJ Barrett explains his side of altercation with James Harden
Barrett addressed the incident during the post-match press conference, offering his perspective on what unfolded between him and Harden.
He explained that the situation began when the ball rolled near Toronto’s bench and Harden stepped into that area to retrieve it.
Barrett said: “The ball was by our bench and he walked in our bench to go pick up the ball. I take everything as disrespect. Don’t walk over to our bench and pick the ball up.
“James Harden is a guy that I have tremendous respect for. I’ve always watched him growing up, but who cares right now? I mean, just don’t walk to our bench and grab the ball.
“I’d expect if I went to the bench and grabbed the ball in front of their bench, I’d expect the same thing,” the 25-year-old concluded.
RJ Barrett delivers but Toronto Raptors fall short
Barrett backed up his intensity with a strong individual display against Cleveland.
He recorded a double-double with 25 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, leading Toronto’s effort across the game.
Despite that contribution, the Raptors could not close out the win and now face a must-win scenario.
With Brandon Ingram doubtful due to a re-aggravated heel issue, Toronto will likely rely even more on Barrett to maintain that level and push for a Game 7.
