More shooting help is on the way for Seton Hall basketball.

The Pirates received a commitment from Loyola-Marymount wing Rodney Brown, who brings a three-year track record from deep at both the mid-major and high-major levels.

Here are three things to know about the 6-foot-6 junior.

1. He’s shot the 3-ball well everywhere he’s been

At Loyola Marymount in 2025-26, the California native hit 38.2 percent of his 3-pointers (87 of 228, leading the West Coast Conference in made 3-pointers). He averaged 14.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 32 minutes per game and shot .425 overall from the field and .830 from the free-throw line (44 of 53, not a lot of attempts for someone who logged over 1,000 minutes). The Lions finished 15-17 overall and 6-12 in the WCC.

In four games against the WCC’s NCAA Tournament squads – two against Santa Clara and one apiece against Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s – Brown shot a total of 9-of-23 from deep (39.1 percent).

As a sophomore at Virginia Tech, Brown saw limited playing time and shot .424 from 3-point range (14 of 33). As a freshman at Cal, when Cal was still in the Pac-12, he shot .397 from deep (23 of 58) as a regular rotation piece.

All told, over three collegiate seasons, Brown is shooting .389 from 3-point range, .415 from the field and .794 from the free-throw line.

2. He’s mostly played guard

Cal, Virginia Tech and Loyola-Marymount all listed the 185-pound Brown as a guard, and his numbers line up. He’s a good ball-handler – his career assist-to-turnover ratio is a respectable 1.4 to 1 – and he’s capable of beating defenders off the dribble and creating his own shot. But hasn’t been in the paint a whole lot. Given his length, guard-heavy Seton Hall probably utilizes him at wing, a position that has been vacant until now. Brown was regarded as a wing as a three-star high school prospect.

3. He’s the second sniper on board

Brown joins 6-foot-5 Dartmouth transfer Kareem Thomas, who shot .447 from downtown this past season. This is the first time Hall coach Shaheen Holloway has brought in two shooters of his caliber. It’s an obvious effort to correct a shortcoming that prevented the Pirates from making the NCAA Tournament this past season.
