The Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke about LA’s offensive issues after their loss to the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.

The Dodgers only scored three runs over their last two games against the Marlins, and had to stage a ninth-inning comeback to steal a win in the opening game of the series. Roberts believes the Dodgers’ issues began much earlier, though.

“I don’t think we’re collectively swinging the bats the way we were early,” Roberts said. “Sort of started in Colorado, I think. It’s one of those things where hitting is definitely cyclical. In total, we we’re at the top, near the top. The last 10 days, it just hasn’t been synced up. We just haven’t got those hits when we needed them.”

The Dodgers began a series against the Rockies April 17, getting off to a good start with a 7-1 win, but couldn’t keep the bats going. They lost both of the following two games, then went on to score just four times in three games against the San Francisco Giants in their next series.

Despite their recent results, though, Roberts knows the quality in the lineup and believes they’ll make a comeback soon.

“It’s a long season, as we all know,” Roberts said. “You’d like everyone to get off to a good start, but a lot of guys are not performing to the back of their baseball cards. So you just hope that the work and the consistency of work will show benefits and it will balance out at some point.”

Who Has Struggled For the Dodgers in Roberts’ Time Frame?

Of the six Dodgers who qualify over the course of the last four series, four of them sit below league average in terms of wRC+.

Teoscar Hernandez has been the worst of the bunch, posting a 19 wRC+ wot am OPS below .400 during that stretch, and Andy Pages has crashed back down to Earth with a 42 wRC+ in that sample size.

Freddie Freeman hasn’t looked like himself either, something he admitted to following Wednesday’s loss.

“I had pitches to hit, I just didn’t hit ’em,” Freeman said. “I can’t speak for everybody else. I mean, I had strikes. I swung at the strikes. I didn’t hit the strikes.”

Kyle Tucker is also in this group, but sits just below league average. The remaining two batters who have performed on offense during this stretch are Shohei Ohtani and Max Muncy.

Who Do the Dodgers Play Next?

The Dodgers get an off day Thursday, but get started on a six-game roadtrip on Friday.

They’ll open that trip against the St. Louis Cardinals on the road, and will look to bounce back against the fifth-worst pitching staff in MLB by ERA.
