el departamento stages cinematic interior within flagship store
El Departamento completes the Lady Pipa flagship store in Madrid, located on Calle Lagasca in the Salamanca district. The 106 sqm retail space reinterprets conventional store layouts through a scenographic approach that integrates interior architecture with cinematic references. The concept, titled Soirée Dreams, structures the space as a sequence of environments where retail, atmosphere, and narrative are closely linked.
The design draws on visual references associated with the work of David Lynch, particularly in its use of contrast, reflection, and spatial ambiguity. Upon entry, a metallic wall-mounted telephone introduces the spatial narrative, accompanied by a neon sign displaying the brand’s statement. These elements establish a transition from the street into a controlled interior environment.
Material and surface treatments define the spatial continuity. A blue, water-effect floor extends across the store, paired with walls finished in matching limewash, forming a continuous envelope. The central counter, positioned as a focal element, is constructed from backlit corrugated glass blocks and topped with a suspended brushed aluminum light fixture.

velvet, faux fur, and glass compose lady pipa’s layered landscape
Studio El Departamento organizes display areas through a combination of reflective and textured elements. Three mirrored arches frame the main retail zone, amplifying spatial depth and visual layering. Garments are presented against a backdrop clad in silver-toned faux fur, while footwear is arranged within recessed niches lined with contrasting pink and blue velvet.
The fitting room area is conceived as a distinct spatial condition within the store. It is defined by gradient silk curtains that enclose the perimeter and illuminated mirrors that reference traditional dressing rooms. A Murano glass chandelier is suspended centrally, acting as a visual anchor within the space. Seating elements, including chrome stools and velvet poufs, complete the arrangement.
A secondary level houses ‘L’Atelier,’ an event-oriented space with a more contained material palette. The floor is finished in green carpeting, while the walls are clad in dark wood veneer, creating a more enclosed and subdued environment. This lower level extends the program beyond retail, accommodating private events and brand-related activities.
