Brandel Chamblee has been one of the most outspoken critics of LIV Golf over the past four years.

Chamblee is well-known as one of the most straight-shooting analysts in the game.

So perhaps it should be no surprise that he has had so much to say about the controversial LIV Golf league.

Let’s go back in time to June 2022, when LIV Golf was first established, and backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

Brandel Chamblee immediately criticized the numerous big-name players who jumped ship from the PGA Tour in order to join the Saudi-backed outfit.

And the former PGA Tour player has refused to let up on his crusade against LIV ever since.

Chamblee recently predicted the end of LIV Golf, after rumors began to circulate that they could be set to lose their financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s PIF.

PIF’s statement on LIV Golf

PIF released a statement earlier this week, saying that their funding of LIV Golf would cease from the end of the 2026 season.

The statement read: “PIF has made the decision to fund LIV Golf only for the remainder of the 2026 season. The substantial investment required by LIV Golf over a longer term is no longer consistent with the current phase of PIF’s investment strategy.

“This decision has been made in light of PIF’s investment priorities and current macro dynamics. The LIV Golf Board has created a committee of independent directors to evaluate strategic alternatives for its future beyond PIF’s funding horizon.

“LIV Golf has substantially grown the game globally through its transformational and positive impact,” it continued. “It has forever changed the game of golf for the better.

“PIF remains committed to deploying capital internationally in line with its investment strategy, including its substantial current and future investments in various sports as a priority sector.”

Now, with the futures of all LIV Golf players up in the air, Chamblee has had his say on the matter.

Brandel Chamblee declares latest LIV news as a good day for golf

Chamblee made an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show and responded when asked whether PIF cutting their funding to LIV Golf was a good day for the sport.

“Yes, absolutely. When I heard the news yesterday, and I thought it was coming, if you had been paying attention you knew it was coming.

“I thought no matter how big the ruse or how well it was funded, it was hard to get a bad idea off the ground and make it properly.

“It was an irrational actor. There was no way what they were doing was sustainable. They were never going to make a profit.

“But in terms of trying to diversify their economy, or get some other source of revenue. I don’t think the Saudis are going to give up on golf in that regard, I still think they will try and build hotels and courses in Saudi Arabia.

“But as it relates to competitive golf it was an abject failure because people only watch sports that matter and everybody saw through this ruse and knew that it was more of an exhibition than a competition.“
