Delhi Capitals remember two fans they lost too soon after beating Rajasthan Royals

Delhi Capitals travelled to Jaipur on Friday and knocked off Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium.

The win snapped a run of three consecutive defeats for the side.

More than that, it became a tribute to two of their own, Yagya Bhatia, 20, and his 14-year-old cousin Abhav Bhatia, who were killed in a road accident in Delhi earlier in the week after watching their match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

What did Axar Patel and Hemang Badani say?

Speaking after the game, DC captain Axar Patel said he wanted to offer his condolences to the families of the fans who had died following their last match against RCB.

“I would just like to add that, following the tragedy involving our fans after the last match, I want to express my deepest condolences for their loss. I would like to dedicate this victory to them; they were two members of our DC family. Thank you all so much," Axar said.

Inside the dressing room, head coach Hemang Badani addressed the squad, echoing the same thoughts.

“This win is dedicated to the two lads who unfortunately aren’t with us anymore, two DC fans, Yagya and Abhav Bhatia. This win is for them. I think you guys have done them proud.

"They are massive DC fans, they’ve been with us for a while. You might have even seen their images on Instagram. This is for them. Well done, boys, very well done. Good stuff," he said.

What happened to Yagya Bhatia and Abhav Bhatia?

Yagya Bhatia was a BSc student with a cricket bat in one hand and a guitar in the other. His social media pages paint the picture of a young man who had poured himself into the sport.

The two cousins had been at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday to watch Delhi Capitals take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After the match ended, they set off toward their home in Ashok Nagar in west Delhi on Yagya's motorbike.

Abhav was on the phone with his father, Sumit Bhatia, as they rode. Sumit heard a sudden, sharp noise, and then nothing. He called back repeatedly, but no one answered.

Eventually, a stranger picked up and told him that his son and nephew had been in a serious accident on Ashoka Road, where their bike had collided with a truck. The truck did not stop as it fled from the spot. Delhi Police have since traced and seized the vehicle, but the driver remains at large, and a search is underway.

The Bhatias run a dry fruits business and have lived in Ashok Nagar for years. Yagya's relatives have confirmed that he was a regular in his college cricket setup and that he dreamt of making it big in the sport.
