The Houston Astros are one of the biggest disappointments this season, with the 12-21 record tied for the worst in MLB with the Los Angeles Angels this season in the American League.

They're in a terrible spot, and with the injuries to the starting rotation and the struggles of the rest of the pitching staff, things aren't getting any better any time soon. Things could easily spiral into an even bigger disaster this year.

But, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com shared the results of a poll of 20 MLB executives that would be the worst thing that could happen for Astros fans this season. Two MLB execs predicted that the Astros could trade Yordan Alvarez amid the disaster this year.

Astros predicted to trade Yordan Alvarez by 2 MLB execs

Feinsand's poll of 20 MLB executives had Miami Marlins' Sandy Alcantara as the top vote-getter with four votes, while Minnesota Twins' Joe Ryan and Washington Nationals' CJ Abrams received three votes each as the predicted best player traded this year.

However, two MLB executives predicted Alvarez could be dealt this year, which would be a terrible outcome for the fans in Houston.

"Yordan Alvarez was the only other player to receive more than one vote, with one NL executive theorizing that the Astros' 12-20 start could prompt big moves in Houston," Feinsand writes. "Even if that was to happen, trading Alvarez would be a bold move to say the least."

If the season keeps unfolding like it is, seeing Houston sell some players at the deadline would not be a surprise at all. A few of their big-name players, like Isaac Paredes, Christian Walker, and Bryan Abreu, could be on the move.

Trading Alvarez would be a massive leap and fully start the rebuild in Houston. He's under contract for the next three seasons through 2028, and is currently posting a 1.153 OPS this season.

Houston could get a massive return if it traded the superstar lefty slugger this season, but there are plenty of reasons to avoid such a deal. The fan backlash should stop such a trade from happening.

But having two MLB executives make this prediction is a slightly concerning result from this poll. There wouldn't be a move that shows how disastrous things are for the Astros than a trade of Alvarez.

It's not likely at all, even if the season continues to go poorly. Alvarez isn't the kind of player a team should trade. Maybe in the offseason, but in the middle of the year? That would be a disaster.
