What happened to George Springer? Re-injury for Blue Jays is nightmare news originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The broadcast cameras caught the painful words from George Springer: "Can't do nothing but laugh."

The Toronto Blue Jays' star DH had just returned this week from an injury, a fracture to his left big toe.

And then there he was on Saturday, sitting on the ground, injured again.

It looked, visually, like it was the exact same spot.

What happened to George Springer?

Springer was hit by a pitch in his second at bat of Saturday's game in Minnesota.

His front, left foot took the low, inside fastball right off the top of the foot. Slow-motion replays sure seemed to show it quite close to that toe that had just healed up.

He sat on the ground for a few minutes, but it was clear pretty much right away he knew it wasn't good.

Springer exited the game with a heavy limp as Jesus Sanchez came in to pinch-run for him.

It's hard to know for sure, but he may be looking at another absence -- for the same reason he just returned from.
