The Boston Celtics will have to try to close out their first-round series with the Philadelphia 76ers without one of their best players.

Star forward Jayson Tatum has been ruled out of the game due to left knee stiffness.

Jayson Tatum ruled out for critical Game 7 vs. 76ers due to knee stiffness

"He just came in today with knee discomfort," Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said of the decision to sit Tatum in such a critical contest. "And we decided, the medical staff and myself, that he would not play."

Tatum exited Boston's Game 6 loss in Philadelphia on Thursday night with an apparent left leg injury and never returned. The injury was downplayed by Boston after the game, but it was clearly more serious than they initially led on.
