Clemsonfootball is getting involved with another defensive prospect in the 2027 class, this time reaching into New Jersey for edge rusher Chaz Gray.

Gray announced Thursday that he received an offer from Clemson, adding the Tigers to a growing list of programs already in the mix for the St. Joseph Regional standout. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound edge rusher is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports, ranking No. 435 overall in the 2027 class, No. 37 at edge rusher, and No. 9 in New Jersey in the 247Sports Composite.

The offer also continues Clemson’s push to build relationships early in the 2027 cycle. Gray already holds offers from programs like Boston College, Duke, Georgia, Maryland, and Miami, giving him a recruiting board with both regional options and major national programs.

There are no Crystal Ball predictions listed for Gray at this time, so this still feels like an early-stage recruitment rather than one with a clear leader. That matters because Clemson is not trying to jump into a finished race. The Tigers are entering while the board is still forming, and that gives defensive line coach Nick Eason and the staff room to build something.

For Clemson, Gray brings size, positional upside, and a high school background from a respected New Jersey program. If he continues to develop as a pass rusher, his recruitment could look a lot different a year from now than it does today.
