The New York Yankees pretty much gave up on Oswald Peraza.
They dealt him before last season's trade deadline to clear 40-man roster space, acquiring a far-away prospect and some international bonus pool money from the Los Angeles Angels.
Admittedly, Peraza hadn't hit hardly at all up to that point for the Yankees, but he had been a player with decent regard about his potential before he arrived in the major leagues.
The Yanks wanted better out of third base, thought they had found it in Ryan McMahon and in reality hadn't found it at all.
To make matters worse, Peraza is thriving this season with the Angels, generating social media posts like this one in the process:

Peraza was hitting just .152 at the time of the trade last season. You couldn't really blame the Yankees.
But it's the kind of move that feels a lot more painful once Peraza shows that some of that potential he was believed to have actually still existed and just needed an opportunity to show itself.
Peraza is having a blast with the Angels. Maybe there's less pressure, maybe he changed his game, maybe he's simply on a hot streak instead of a cold streak.
Whatever the reason, he very much now looks like a player who could help the Yankees, but he no longer plays for the team in pinstripes anymore.
