There are a whole lot of issues with this San Francisco Giants team. Rafael Devers' struggles might be the biggest issue, but the rest of the offense and the pitching staff leave a lot to be desired.
But the Tony Vitello experiment hasn't worked out well this year either. And the financial aspect has made the Vitello miss sting a lot more for the Giants.
As USA Today's Bob Nightengale highlighted, the Giants have made $10.5 million in mistakes with their managers, recently, a record amount that's just another sign of how bad things are financially for the Giants.
Giants hade $10.5M tied into their manager spot
"If it's not bad enough that they still owe infielders Rafael Devers and Willy Adames about $385 million into the next decade, the Giants are spending a record $10.5 million on managers this season," Nightengale writes.
Bob Melvin is owed $4 million, as the Giants fired him shortly after he received an extension. But that's not the worst of it.
The Giants also had to pay $3 million to Tennessee to buy out Vitello's deal with the college. It was a big risk at the time, and it looks a whole lot worse now.

Vitello is being paid $3.5 million this year, and adding the $3 million buyout and $4 million for Melvin, the Giants have $10.5 million tied up in their manager spot this year.
Not only are the Giants an NL West-worst 13-20, but there is a lot of money tied up in their manager spot this season, more than any team in baseball, according to Nightengale.
Vitello has not panned out at all for the Giants this season, and they're spending more money on their manager than any team in the sport.
It's been a disaster on the field for the Giants, but it's just as bad off the field with the front office's financial decisions recently.
