Braves make history they haven't done since the 1892 Boston Beaneaters originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The last time the Atlanta Braves did this, their franchise wasn't based in Atlanta, or known as the Braves.

You have to go all the way back to the 1892 Boston Beaneaters to find a feat like this one.

The accomplishment is this: 25 wins in their first 35 games of a season.

Braves reporter Grant McAuley shared the tidbit on X, noting that those 1892 Beaneaters eventually started 28-10 that year:

The franchise eventually became known as the Braves while still playing in Boston, then moved to Milwaukee, then finally to Atlanta.

Those 1892 Beaneaters provide a good omen. They won the National League pennant that season with a 102-48-2 record. They then won the "World Series" (this was before the modern AL/NL version) over the Cleveland Spiders.

Their catcher was known as King Kelly. Their best hitters were Herman Long and Billy Nash.

It was a different version of the game -- those Beaneaters stole 338 bases, including three guys with more than 50 swipes.

One of their pitchers, Jack Stivetts, batted .296 and also had a 3.03 ERA in 415.2 innings.

Their most-used pitcher was the legendary Kid Nichols, who was 35-16 with a 2.84 ERA in 453 innings with 192 strikeouts.

So yeah, it's been a while.

But right now, a Braves team that was a major disappointment last season is showing the talent everyone knew they had. It's been a special start.
