While the present quarterback situation for Auburn is settled with Byrum Brown, the Tigers need to look at the future of the position past the 2026 season.
One prospect, Alex Golesh and his staff have their eyes on 2028 four-star in-state quarterback Kingston Preyear. On Saturday, the Benjamin Russell signal caller named Auburn as one of his top six teams for his recruitment, according to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals. The other five on his list are Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Notre Dame, and Vanderbilt.
Preyear is one of the top prospects in the 2028 recruiting class. The 247Sports composite rankings have him ranked as the No. 4 quarterback and No. 3 player in Alabama. He had a big year for Benjamin Russell in 2025 as a sophomore, which got the attention of many schools. He helped lead the Wildcats to a 12-2 overall record and a region championship before losing to Saraland in the semifinals of the AHSAA 6A State Playoffs. During the season, he threw for 3,026 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also showed a great ability for ball security with just five interceptions. His top target was Cedarian Morgan, who picked Alabama over Auburn as part of the 2026 recruiting class.
Auburn will need to find its quarterback of the future past the 2026 season. While there is plenty of excitement around Brown, he will just be with the Tigers for one season. The expected backup for the Tigers is Oregon State transfer Tristian Ti'a.
