We’ve been keeping an eye on the somewhat unexpected collaboration between Waterloo and Guy Fieri’s Flavortown brand for a minute now. The two have clearly struck up a good working relationship, and their partnership has resulted in some pretty fun flavored waters, including Huckleberry Cobbler, Spiced Mango Sorbet, and Lemon Italian Ice (all of which we tried last year). Let it never be said that Mr. Fieri doesn’t know how to have fun with its collabs.
But hey – remember when we talked about this year’s batch of new, dessert-inspired flavors, back in March? You don’t? Oh. Well, we did. And now, we’re pleased to tell you that they can be found in everyone’s favorite low-cost German retailer. New Flavortown waters, now at Aldi.
The Store That Really Does Have Everything
Word of the Guy Fieri x Waterloo Flavortown waters now being available at Aldi came, as most things do these days, via Reddit. A shopper over there posted a picture of some packs of water in their cart, next to one of Millville Crispy Rice, one of Aldi’s breakfast cereals (which, again, we have tried and maintain is pretty decent). We’re a little surprised the store didn’t go for a dupe version of these new waters, but hey, maybe it’s just gearing up to that.
As for how much they cost, one Redditor in the comments said the flavors were around $4.59 per pack, though this may vary by store. Now I don’t wanna be that guy, but that is a little more expensive than at Walmart, where you can currently find packs of the new Coconut Lime Cooler online. That said, Walmart doesn’t seem to be stocking the other two flavors, Root Beer Float and Apple Pie à la Mode, so Aldi has the edge there. As with all of these things, these new options might not be available in every Aldi store nationwide, but hopefully, this is the start of a broad rollout.
Are They Worth It?
Well, according to customers, it’s kind of a mixed bag. The general consensus is that the Root Beer Float flavor is the one to beat: “I don’t remember a new water flavor getting a reaction like this before … This one is an instant top 5 all time flavor for me,” said a Redditor on the post announcing their Aldi presence. Whatever they’ve done with it, it just works – and the Coconut Lime Cooler is also winning its fair share of fans for its full-bodied flavor.
As for that Apple Pie one, though, well … People are less convinced. “The cinnamon is so fake and cloying. Tastes like a candle or potpourri or something,” said another Redditor. This isn’t a universally-held opinion, and some people do still like it, but it’s definitely not been as successful as the other two in the court of public opinion. Hey, the mayor of Flavortown still took a risk here, and we respect it.
