After a disappointing 2025 season, UCLA football is starting to head in the right direction under new head coach Bob Chesney. Chesney led James Madison to its first College Football Playoff appearance in program history last season and is looking to take the Bruins there in 2026.

Chesney has dominated in recruiting so far this offseason. The Bruins’ Class of 2027 commits rank No. 4 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten behind crosstown rivals, USC.

In just the first weekend of May, UCLA has added six more commits to that recruiting class.

Who Are the Six New Commits?

Four of the new commits are four-star recruits: cornerback JuJu Johnson, safety Jerry Outhouse Jr., running back Jayshon Gibson and interior offensive lineman Jackson Roper.

Roper is the No. 1 ranked player in the state of Colorado, according to 247Sports.

Johnson is a Los Angeles native coming from Long Beach Poly High School and is the No. 7 ranked player in the state of California by 247Sports. Outhouse Jr. is from Forth Worth, Texas and ranks as the No. 100 recruit in the nation. Gibson is also from Texas, ranking No. 55 overall in the state.

UCLA secured two more recruits out of California on Sunday in Folsom wide receiver Rob Larson and De La Salle running back Deuce Jones-Drew. The pair are three-star recruits who are ranked No. 46 and No. 65 in the state of California.

Jones-Drew is the son of former UCLA and NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew.
