Bayern Munich have been in steady contact with Anthony Gordon’s representatives as their interest in the Newcastle United winger continues to increase ahead of the summer transefr window.

The German giants are planning changes to their forward line and have identified Gordon as a serious option, with discussions taking place over several months and reports popping up every few days for the last month.

Newcastle are aware of the growing interest in Gordon and many other of their stars, and the expectation is that the Magpies will sanction sales involving key players as part of the roster rebuild for next season.

Gordon has been one of Newcastle’s standout performers during the first half of the season, making 46 appearances overall, scoring 17 goals and registering five assists, albeit missing ample time and not performing that much of late.

Sky’s Florian Plettenberg reported on Friday that communication between Bayern and Gordon’s camp has been ongoing for months, indicating that the move has been developing behind the scenes.

The report adds that Bayern view the 25-year-old as a strong fit for their system, particularly given his pace, pressing and versatility across the front line, with Gordon playing makeshift striker for Newcastle at times this season.

Newcastle’s position is obvious and clear: sell but only at the right price, and in Gordon’s case the time for that might be now if the club wants to maximize the profit they can make on a potential sale given Gordon seems to be reaching his peak already.

Bayern are not alone in their interest, with Premier League clubs also monitoring Gordon’s situation in what would certainly be a boost for NUFC’s hopes of extracting as much as possible from whoever pulls the trigger.
