The quarterback situation for the Minnesota Vikings has been a whirlwind experience for fans over the last decade. They thought they had their franchise answer in Kirk Cousins, only for him to get the team over the hill but not the mountain. They saw Sam Darnold arrive to play hero when their top draft pick, J.J. McCarthy, went down for the year, only for him to leave town and win a Super Bowl this year with the Seattle Seahawks.

Now, in the present day, it is J.J. McCarthy's situation to handle after fumbling his chances in 2025, and the team has brought in Kyler Murray to compete. And while Vikings fans would love some stability at the position, they are going to be witnessing one of the more interesting camp battles in 2026.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox dove into the top camp competitions, and the Vikings' battle made the cut. Knox wrote about the competition between Murray and McCarthy, and hints that Murray may have a leg up in the battle for QB1.

"Players like Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson, and Aaron Jones Sr.—not to mention the quarterback-friendly offense of Kevin O'Connell—are why Murray has a real chance to revitalize his career with the Vikings. If he doesn't do that, maybe he'll push McCarthy to become a dependable starter."

The team may be reliable quarterback play away from competing for a Super Bowl. Does Murray or McCarthy provide that? Time will tell, but they have the roster to do so.
