New York City-based NYC Health + Hospitals has appointed two system chief medical officers.

Sewit Teckie, MD, was named senior vice president and system CMO for clinical affairs and business strategy, according to a May 4 release. Ted Long, MD, was named system CMO for clinical services and population health. Both assumed their roles March 2.

Dr. Teckie, a practicing radiation oncologist, first joined the system in 2022 as system chief of radiation oncology. In her new role, she oversees clinical affairs, clinical business planning and specialty services across the system, including management of 6,000 full-time medical staff and clinical affiliate relationships. She also leads medical education programs comprising 350 training programs for 2,900 trainees, along with the system’s Transfer, Access, and Capacity Center, which supports more than 52,000 patient transportation rides and 10,000 patient transfers annually.

Dr. Long, a practicing primary care physician, most recently served as the system’s senior vice president of ambulatory care and population health. He now leads clinical services across ambulatory and acute care — including capacity management and emergency response efforts — along with the system’s population health framework. He also serves as CEO of the NYC Health + Hospitals Accountable Care Organization, which has achieved 12 consecutive years of shared savings.
