The Green Bay Packers are signing veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor to be the new backup behind Jordan Love, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Taylor, who turns 37 years old in August, joins a quarterback group that currently consists of Love, Desmond Ridder and Kyle McCord, although a corresponding roster move at quarterback could be coming. McCord participated during the Packers' rookie minicamp this past weekend.
Green Bay is attempting to replace Malik Willis, who signed a lucrative contract with the Miami Dolphins in free agency after two impressive seasons backing up Love.
Taylor brings a wealth of experience to the backup role. He has appeared in 100 games with 62 starts over a 15-year NFL career with seven different teams. He spent the last two seasons with the New York Jets, playing in eight games with four starts.
After a multi-year run as a preferred starter in Buffalo, Taylor has been a backup in the NFL for the better part of the last decade. His record as a backup since 2018 is 7-11-1.
Taylor has thrown 73 touchdown passes against only 34 interceptions in his career, with a completion percentage of 61.8 and a passer rating of 87.7.
