A LoyaltyLobby reader and a friend of mine, who last year did the 1M miles Turkish Airlines challenge, received on Sunday an email from Miles&Smiles that their account was set for deletion due to inactivity.
Have a mishap, a loyalty story, or something else travel-related to share? Please send it to us at john@loyaltylobby.com for a possible feature.
You can access Turkish Airlines here.
Krister’s Comment:
This email doesn’t make much sense because they have certainly had activity on their Miles&Smiles account.
Krister didn’t forward me the email, but it certainly looks legit, but I cannot check what is the landing page of that link on the email.
I would say this is likely a database issue with Turkish Airlines that has resulted in this incorrect email being sent.
Remember, Krister did the 1M challenge and filed a report about it:
REPORT: My Turkish Airlines Odyssey Across Six Continents (For 1 Million Bonus Miles!)
Turkish Airlines Million Miles Challenge: An Irrational and Simultaneously Rational Temptation I Couldn’t Resist
CLOSED: Turkish Airlines “6 Continents Challenge” With 1 Million Bonus Miles For Travel June 27 – October 27, 2025
Conclusion
You have to be quite careful with clicking many of these links in emails, although the email providers tend to do quite a good job of classifying phishing/junk email as such, but always something eventually gets through.
The email did come from TK, however, and it is likely sent in error, but notice that they don’t use your name at all, “Dear Member”, but only the Miles&Smiles account number.
