Japan Airlines has now updated its fuel surcharge charts for tickets issued on or after May 1, 2026, and these increases are UGLY.

The fuel surcharge for trips beginning in Japan will increase from 91% to 115%. The long-haul fuel surcharge in USD will be $352.

Japan Airlines Fuel Surcharge Table ex-Japan:

Conclusion

These fuel surcharges also apply to Japan Airlines award tickets issued from their program.

I would say that the fuel surcharges are only one component of the airfares, and the base fare will adjust based on demand.

Remember some of those European short-haul fares where the airline had to lower the fuel surcharge to avoid publishing negative fares?

This level of fuel/carrier surcharges will also affect the demand if they end up increasing the total fares.
