Yesterday, we reported that Lufthansa announced their almost traditional way of saying sorry for strikes by crediting qualifying status points to their Miles&More elite members.
When I checked my Senator account this morning, the points have now been fully credited as promised and that will make it easier this year to requalify for status.
Giving Miles&More customers some goodwill in the form of lowered status requirements, or, respectively, a qualifying points/miles credit, has been the established way for Lufthansa to handle these constant strike situations, and I already expected that something would be forthcoming this time as well.
Here is John’s article from yesterday following Lufthansa’s announcement:
Promised Bonus Points, Qualifying Points & HON Circle Points:
• HON Circle = 300
• Senator = 100
• Frequent Traveler = 35
Here is my account statement with the entry for the points credit:
So, as a current Miles&More Senator member, I got 100 extra points, which is nice in case I want to pursue a status extension this year. In addition to the 40 points from the new credit card and the Marriott promotion that is already 1/3 of the total requirement.
Conclusion
Lufthansa has once again credited qualifying points to elite members of their own program as goodwill compensation for the strikes that lasted over a week by now.
Typically, Lufthansa has always issued these compensations in a blanket form for all their elite members, irrespective of whether you had a booking during these strike dates or if your flight was actually impacted.
Keep in mind that these points, which are now credited, are status points, meaning they can’t be used to redeem any awards.
Have you received your points yet, and do you think this is an appropriate gesture?
