The New York Jets were one of the few teams in the first round to have multiple first-round picks. With their No. 2 overall pick, the Jets shored up their defense, drafting one of the best pass rushers, David Bailey.
With their 16th overall pick on Thursday, the Jets went offense and selected one of the more dynamic and elite pass catchers, tight end Kenyon Sadiq.
Coming into the draft, Sadiq was highly touted, projected to be a top-20 pick. He ultimately lands with the Jets at 16, and is set to take the offense and the tight end room to new heights.
While Sadiq is a tremendous talent, ESPN's Rich Cimini wonders if the Jets took him as a luxury pick. He questioned it in his latest column.
" Coach Aaron Glenn said recently that tight end Mason Taylor, a 2025 second-round pick, is going to have "a hell of a year" in 2026. Then came the draft, and the Jets became only the fourth team over the past 24 years to pick a tight end in the first or second round in back-to-back years.
"It's on new offensive coordinator Frank Reich to make it work. Look for an uptick in 12 personnel (1 RB, 2 TEs, 2 WRs). In Reich's recent history as a playcaller, his usage of 12 personnel was roughly the league average."
Kenyon Sadiq could offer boost to Jets offense
Last season, the Jets' tight end room contributed to the poor overall offense. That room alone ranked zero production in the red zone and ranked last in yards per reception.
Although Taylor showed potential, it is clear that the Jets wanted and needed an upgrade with Sadiq. Sadiq is a versatile tight end with a great physique and massive potential as a volume target. His route tree is as expansive a sit can be, and with his athleticism and quickness, he could very easily be the Jets' need go-to target week in and week out.
The former Oregon Duck stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 241 pounds out of Idaho.
