The new Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital is slated to open May 16 in Tacoma, Wash., a spokesperson for Tacoma-based MultiCare told Becker’s.

Four things to know:

1. The $479 million, six-story hospital sits on the site of the original campus, which opened in March 1955 and was funded by the estate of Tacoma family medicine physician Albert Bridge, MD.

2. The facility includes three patient play and activity rooms, eight operating rooms, 29 emergency department exam rooms, and a cafe and coffee shop.

3. The project is expected to create 260 jobs through 2028.

4. “We begin an important new chapter in Mary Bridge Children’s 71-year history with the opening of our new, free-standing children’s hospital and expanded outpatient center on the site of our original 1955 campus in Tacoma, Washington,” Jeff Poltawsky, president and market leader of Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital & Health Network, said in a statement shared with Becker’s. “This milestone comes at a critical moment as we grow to serve patients and families throughout the Pacific Northwest with this regional specialty referral center for children.”
