Barry Arbuckle, PhD, CEO of Fountain Valley, Calif.-based MemorialCare, will become executive chairman of the system, effective July 1.

President David Kim, MD, will succeed Dr. Arbuckle as CEO, according to an April 29 health system news release.

Dr. Kim will retain his role as president while assuming CEO responsibilities. Dr. Arbuckle will transition to executive chairman and co-chair MemorialCare’s governing board.

Dr. Kim most recently led the system’s clinical enterprise as president, with responsibility for its four acute hospitals, medical foundation and clinical institutes. He previously served as CEO of the MemorialCare Medical Foundation, overseeing more than 2,000 affiliated physicians and ambulatory services.

Dr. Arbuckle has served as CEO for more than two decades and joined MemorialCare in 1989. During his tenure, the system expanded to four acute care hospitals, more than 200 ambulatory care sites and a network of more than 2,000 aligned physicians. He also positioned the system as an early champion of value-based care, advancing innovative models that incentivize care delivery focused on evidence-based outcomes.

“I’m excited and remain fully committed to leading MemorialCare as its executive chairman, including through continued advocacy to improve healthcare delivery and funding models in California and across the nation,” Dr. Arbuckle said in the release.
