The U.S. Department of State has designed a limited edition passport available exclusively via the Washington DC Passport Office this year, specifically for the 250th Anniversary of the United States.
This new passport (which has to be specifically requested) depicts famous American scenes, sceneries and personalities such as the Declaration of Independence, Muhammad Ali as well as President Trump.
The latter being somewhat controversial because typically living Presidents do not appear on currency or government documents, but that’s more like a custom than a firm rule.
I don’t care so much about President Trump appearing in the passport or not, that is a decision for the government and Americans to make, but I find all the designs rather interesting.
As was to be expected, the response from political adversaries isn’t exactly one of exubrance. However, getting this design isn’t mandatory anyway so nobody is forced to obtain it. We don’t do politics here but this is simply a case of take it or leave it.
The social media comments of course blew up again with strong reactions ranging from people wanting to deface the page with Trump on it (bad idea, it would render the passport invalid) to those who want it saying they will “lose” their current passport to get the new one which is also a bad idea because lost passports create a bad record, just renew it and cite wear and tear as the reason.
According to all information available right now, this limited edition passport will be available exclusively at the Washington DC Passport agency and is issued only upon request. The current passport in its plain version will remain the default.
As reported by CBS, the passport will be available very soon to those citizens who make their way to the Washington passport office.
So if anyone from across the country wants this passport then a flight to DC and an in person visit to the passport agency is required. Maybe a bit of an overkill but if you really want it that is the only way.
Conclusion
The Department of State via its passport office in Washington DC will soon offer a special edition of the U.S. Passport designed for the 250th anniversary of the United States this summer.
This version of the passport will only be available in person and upon request at the passport agency in Washington DC, nowhere else in the country. There will be no additional cost should you decide to request it.
Various motived in the passport include a Formula 1 Car in stars and stripes, a boxing scene of Muhammad Ali and a portrait of President Trump with a signature on one of the pages.
Will you get one of these?
