Several hospitals and health systems have announced new physician residency programs in 2026 to expand training opportunities for medical students and strengthen their market’s pipeline of future physicians.

Below are four hospitals and health systems launching or announcing new programs in 2026.

• HCA Florida Capital Hospital in Tallahassee and the UCF College of Medicine announced a new internal medicine residency program in January. The program will welcome its first class of 12 residents in July 2026, growing to 36 trainees at full capacity.

• Hudson Regional Health in Secaucus, N.J., and New York Medical College in Valhalla announced an orthopedic surgery residency program at Bayonne (N.J.) University Hospital on May 1. The program received ACGME accreditation and will welcome its inaugural class this summer.

• Lakewood Health System in Staples, Minn., and the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis announced a new rural family medicine residency program April 27. The three-year program will train two family medicine physicians per year, with the first cohort set to begin in summer 2027.

• USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Tampa General Behavioral Hospital have launched a new psychiatry residency program, the organizations said in March. The four-year program will begin this summer with an initial cohort of three residents.
