American Airlines has issued a statement (read more here) stating that it is not engaged in or interested in discussions about a possible merger with United. Now, Mr. Kirby has, however, issued a statement that he had approached American but was shot down.

United CEO’s Statement:

Conclusion

It seems that Mr. Kirby has some serious beef about his previous employment at American Airlines, where he was basically shown the door, and now he is on a revenge tour.

There have been a couple of features about Mr. Kirby in the US media over the past week, and based on the excerpt I have seen, he comes across as a card-counting psychopath who probably should not be running an airline, but he is.

He should drop his fixation on the issues he personally has about his previous employment at American and move on.
