FMOL Health has launched a systemwide rollout of Epic’s AI-powered charting tool aimed at reducing administrative burden and improving patient care.
The Baton Rouge, La.-based health system is deploying Epic AI Charting, known as “Chart with Art,” across its hospitals and clinics after piloting the technology earlier this year, according to an April 29 news release shared with Becker’s.
The tool, embedded within Epic, uses ambient listening to convert conversations between clinicians and patients into draft clinical notes. FMOL Health said it is the first health system to implement the technology in emergency departments and among the first five Epic clients to use it in ambulatory settings.
The rollout follows a 60-day early adopter program in which clinicians tested and helped refine the tool in collaboration with Epic’s research and development team. Leaders at FMOL Health reported strong early adoption and said initial feedback suggests reductions in physician burnout, administrative workload and documentation time, along with improved patient satisfaction.
The health system plans to make the tool available to outpatient and emergency department clinicians across its 10 hospitals and affiliated clinics, including facilities in Louisiana and Mississippi such as Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and St. Dominic Hospital.
