SWITZERLAND. Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has announced it is ending inflight duty-free sales from the end of September, shifting its focus to a strengthened digital retail platform, ‘Worldshop’ of Miles & More with an expanded product range.
The airline said the move reflects changing consumer behaviour, with fewer onboard purchases and a clear shift toward online price comparison and pre-travel shopping.
Another finding was that spontaneous purchases from the onboard duty-free trolley have become “the exception rather than the rule”, prompting the decision to discontinue inflight duty-free sales.
The inflight offering features watches, jewellery, perfumes, cosmetics, accessories and gift items, with the existing sales catalogue remaining in place until it ends on 30 September.
Starting in June, SWISS will offer selected items from its remaining duty-free range at discounted prices starting from -25%, while stocks last, ahead of the full discontinuation of its onboard duty-free sales.
The changes will not affect other onboard retail offerings on Swiss International Air Lines flights, including the Economy food & beverage concept ‘SWISS Saveurs’.
Selected products from the current duty-free online catalogue will continue to be available via the existing ‘Worldshop’ of Miles & More.
These include SWISS-branded mugs, trolley suitcases and aircraft models, as well as exclusive furniture and accessories made from decommissioned Swiss International Air Lines aircraft. The handcrafted, rare ‘SWISS Recraft Collection’ is sold exclusively through this platform.
The limited-edition pilot’s watch Navitimer B01 Chronograph 46 SWISS Limited Edition, developed by the airline with Breitling exclusively for inflight sales, will stay on offer for selected long-haul routes through the end of September.
