USA. Our latest images come from Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal A, which we transited on a recent US visit and which carries some lovely touches that evoke a distinctive sense of New Jersey.
The terminal is now open three years as one element in the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s continuing US$19.5 billion upgrading of the region’s airports system.
The 1 million square feet facility does a nice job of showcasing local artists on the walls and in its digital installations. It also opens up New Jersey to the guest in a fun way by using gate signposting to quiz travellers about their knowledge of the area, neatly building the sense of personal connection.
There are locally inspired concessions aplenty alongside a range of luxury names spread across boutique space plus core duty free by Avolta.
And it is all brought together by the light, airy, three-storey building that floods in natural light and gives human scale to the journey.
